I was fortunate to attend the ‘Good to Great’ parent evening organised and hosted by the Friends of Ōrākei School (FoOS) group earlier this year where Justine gave a talk for parents and staff in our community. Justine’s values and experience align with our school’s values as a Positive Behaviour for Learning School. Highlights from the presentation included changing your mindset, focusing on process praise and adding ‘yet’ to the end of sentences. As a speaker she blends humour, relatable real life contexts and experiences with theory to help us move from good to great parents and educators. I would be very confident in referring Justine to others and I wouldn’t hesitate to book future talks.

Teaching staff and kindergarten whanau enjoyed the presentation and felt that it offered a way to share important knowledge. It reminded us that using positive techniques such as descriptive praise to support behaviour and encourage co-operation in younger children was more empowering and mana enhancing for the child and more rewarding, creating a more positive environment for all. Justine drew on her own experiences as a parent which provides a more relatable learning experience for whanau. I’m very happy to recommend Justine as a speaker and we would definitely book another presentation in future.

At a recent presentation Justine’s clear and enthusiastic delivery on the topic of Descriptive Praise was well received by both parents and staff. Her passion for her subject was clear and reinforced by interesting anecdotes from her personal experiences.  The skills she imparted provided a valuable practical tool.
